TYRF Resolution Opposing State Income Tax

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Tennessee General Assembly has been called into special session in order to consider the imposition of a state income tax or other forms of tax increases upon Tennessee families;

WHEREAS, the budget crisis faced by the state is due only to excessive spending, and not to a lack of revenue; and

WHEREAS, many Republican members of the General Assembly have made it known that the projected budget deficit could be avoided by reforming spending and eliminating waste.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the Tennessee Young Republican Federation hereby expresses its opposition to a state income tax, to any increase in current taxation, or to any new form of taxation;

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the Tennessee Young Republican Federation hereby expresses its support for those Republican members of the General Assembly who have stood firm in their opposition to unnecessary tax increases; and

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the Tennessee Young Republican Federation hereby encourages the members of the Tennessee General Assembly to oppose any tax increase or any new form of taxation, including a state income tax, and to conduct a complete review of all state spending, including a justification on a department by department basis, of all expenditures, prior to reviewing the existing revenue structure.
